In an effort to expand relations with universities in the
Kurdistan Region and enhance the participation of law students, the Kurdistan
Center for International Law (KCIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding
(MOU) with Soran University. The signing event was attended by Dr. Salar Suwar
Ismail, Vice President of the Faculty of Law and Politics, Dr. Bzhar Abdullah,
Head of the Department of Law, and Dr. Hassan, a Soran University lecturer.
Moreover, this MOU aims to develop and foster a scientific and youthful
environment that allows law students to become familiar with the international
legal system, particularly international criminal law and international
humanitarian law, and to recognize its impact on today’s universal legal
frameworks. It also seeks to consolidate important values such as human rights
and democracy.
It’s worth mentioning that over the past few years, KCIL has
developed projects related to this mission by offering summer school,
publishing articles and translations related to the aforementioned themes, and
conducting workshops for law students from KRI universities. So far, KCIL is
committed to educating law students from the KRI Universities, providing them
with access to comprehensive cultural and scientific resources about the international
legal system and how to implement its core principles within the KRI legal
system. In alignment with this strategy, KCIL looks forward to future
cooperation between civil society organizations and law colleges in KRI
universities. KCIL plans to sign similar memoranda of understanding with other
universities in Kurdistan, particularly those that have received less attention
from civil society organizations through activities such as workshops, summer
schools, youth activities, and support for youth initiatives. Ultimately, this
effort aims to achieve a future where the concepts of justice and human rights
are more highly valued in accordance with international law and treaties.
