The KCIL held a fruitful meeting with the Presidency of Public Prosecution - Kurdistan Region

In order to extend the relations of the KCIL with the Presidency of Public Prosecution of the Kurdistan Region, on July 2, 2024, the KCIL delegations met with the Chief Prosecutor of the Kurdistan Region, Judge Kawa Fathi Masoum, and Judge Sana Sabah Wahid. In the framework of this productive meeting, the judicial situation and the work and activities of the Prosecutor General in consolidating the rule of law and protecting the rights of citizens in the KRI courts were discussed. The latest work and activities of the KCIL to enhance the role of law and create a high-yielding environment for familiarizing judges and prosecutors with the universal duties and rights of the judicial process were discussed. It is worth mentioning that the KCIL executive director, Hawre Ahmad, and his accompanying team highlighted the latest project of the Center, “Justice Resilience Initiative in the KRI,” which is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office’s fund by IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), Funding Programme Zivik. This project includes initiatives for judges and prosecutors on issues such as familiarity with international law, consolidating the dimensions of a fair trial, providing new legal resources for judges in the judicial process, and consolidating the rule of law through workshops, seminars, drafting bills, creating manuals regarding fair trial, guideline on legislative process according international standards and manuel on international criminal justice for judges and prosecutors. At the end of the meeting, the Chief Prosecutor and his accompanying team reaffirmed their full support for attaining the overarching objectives of the project and expressed their cooperation in implementing all the steps that serve the coordination process and work together for the enshrinement of the rule of law within the KRI judicial system.
