In 2021, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Kurdistan Parliament drafted a bill to establish a special court for trying ISIS members. Dr. Soran Barzanji, a Parliamentary Advisor, emphasized the efforts of the KRG and Parliament in advancing the internalization of international criminal law during the conference on "International Criminal Justice in Kurdistan – Enforcement Procedures," which was organized by the Kurdistan Center for International Law (KCIL) in December 2023.
