In continuation of the KCIL
endeavors to cover a live broadcast of the trail case pertains to (Hasna. A),
accused of enslaving two Yazidi women and membership in ISIS terrorist
organization ISIS in the hearing proceedings at the Schiphol judicial building
in the Hague. On October 17, 2024, the livestream of the hearing was shown to
students at the College of Law at Soran University in collaboration with the
Yazidi Legal Network, the Nuhanovic Foundation, and Soran University. Markedly,
37 law students get acquainted from watching the trial hearing process,
allowing them to collect their notes and observations as a new learning
experience. So far, they familiarized themselves with courts specialized in
investigating international crimes.
The essence of this coverage
stems from its educational approach aimed at acquainting law students in the
KRI universities with international law, particularly international criminal
law. This initiative pursuant to broaden Soran university law students’
perspective on international crimes and the hearing mechanisms at European
countries for prosecution of international heinous crimes including ISIS
perpetrators.
This activity is rooted in
the memorandum of understanding signed between the KCIL and Soran University.
This memorandum has catalyzed several activities by the KCIL for the Soran
university. Most prominently, it facilitated the participation of Soran University's
law students in the rule of Law summer camp for strengthening the role of law.
This camp, which included students from four universities in the KRI,
introduced them to the importance of the rule of law in crisis prevention from
an international law perspective.
