The KCIL organized a two-day workshop for lawyers in Sulaimani province.

The KCIL arranged a two-day workshop for lawyers under the framework of the "Justice Resilience Initiative (JRI) in the KRI," supported by the German Federal Foreign Office’s funding via IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), on 21-22 February 2025 in Sulaimani province.
The workshop began with a brief introduction to the KCIL programs and its activities by the project team, followed by a presentation by Judge Dr. Sardar Aziz on “The Fair Trial manual and its core aspects of fair trial within both national and international legal contexts.” Later, Dr. Mohammed Rashid presented the topic of "The Preliminary Investigations of the ICC." Dr. Ebad Ruhi then presented the topic of “Individual Criminal Responsibility.” Noteworthy was the fact that participants discussed subjects tied to their daily legal practices, seeking to develop a new cohesive vision within the courts, aligned with international mechanisms. Upon the conclusion of the first day, Dr. Ebad Ruhi delivered a session regarding “War Crimes,” and his session ended with a question-and-answer session and discussion.
The workshop started with a summary of the topics covered on the first day. Mohammed Rashid spoke about “Crime Investigation” and then discussed the topic of “Confirmation of Charges, and Pre-Trial Chamber” for the participants. Before the lunch break, Dr. Awara Hussein presented the topic "Crimes of Genocide." He enriched the topic by discussing several cases in both private and international courts. He then discussed the topic of “Crimes against Humanity” for the lawyers, while highlighting the practical steps that lawyers can take when handling cases related to crimes against humanity and international crimes. The workshop concluded with the presentation of participation certificates and a taken photo group.
