On 17th March 2025, the KCIL facilitated a gathering session for religious actors residing in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) in Sulaymaniyah province, as part of an advocacy campaign for the Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) in the KRI. This project is funded by Stefanos Alliance International.
The session commenced with a concise overview of the KCIL programs and their interventions in the KRI by the project team, followed by facilitation led by Mr. Khdhir Domli. The attendance from diverse religious traditions, encompasses Sunni and Shia Muslims, Kakai, Baha’i, Zoroastrian, Yazidi, Faili, and Christian communities. The session opened with a discussion on interfaith understanding and the importance of FoRB in KRI, emphasized key factors that foster robust connections between diverse religious groups. The participants subsequently put forward recommendations and avenues for future collaborations aimed at promoting interfaith-supporting approaches and spreading peace in society in various aspects.
The session concluded with Iftar dinner, urging all participants to foster mutual awareness and engage in one another’s forthcoming religious events. This initiative aims to cultivate a more inclusive community, encourage interfaith solidarity, and promote peacebuilding within society.
