Duhok Law Students Lead Initiative to Prevent Migrant Smuggling through KCIL Program

Four law students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Duhok, who participated in the 2025 KCIL Summer School have launched a project through KCIL’s Community Participatory Approach (CPA) program to address the issue of migrant smuggling in Duhok province.

The initiative began with the design, printing, and distribution of 300 brochures in Kurdish and Arabic, outlining the risks of illegal migration. These brochures were disseminated in public spaces across Duhok, particularly targeting youth in the city and at the university, to raise awareness on the dangers of irregular migration.

As the next step, the group is organizing a public seminar titled “Hope is here, not abroad and Illegal Migration: Risks, Opportunities, and Solutions”, scheduled for 16 September 2025 at Peshmerga Hall, University of Duhok. The event is expected to bring together 200 participants and feature four distinguished speakers, providing an important platform for open dialogue and community-driven solutions to the challenges of irregular migration in the KRI.
