Kurdistan Center for International Law (KCIL) in cooperation with the German
Federal Foreign Office's fund via ifa
(Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) on 18th June 2022 held a roundtable discussion with judges, prosecutors, academicians,
members of Kurdistan parliament and human rights defenders.
The discussion was
to identify a suitable approach to domesticating international criminal law in
Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the main focuses on effective and efficient
national mechanism to cater the need to address most serious violations, alternative
laws for prosecuting core international crimes, and how other regions or states
have conducted such attempts to criminalize core international crimes, and are there any specific effective steps that KCIL
should follow to criminalize core crimes within the KRI legal system.
