The KCIL arranged a two-day workshop for lawyers on investigation and prosecution of international crimes in Erbil province:

In cooperation with the Kurdistan Bar association, The KCIL has conducted a 2-day workshop for 22Lawyers (12 female &10 male)  on 11-12 May,2025 in Erbil province, under the Justice Resilience Initiative in the Kurdistan Region (KRI), This project is funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs via Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (IFA). The workshop sessions on the first day were centered around prosecution and investigation of international crimes at international and Iraqi legal system levels, Individual criminal responsibility and Joint criminal enterprise (JCE), pathways in prosecuting crime against humanity and war crimes. On the first day, Dr. Parez Najmaddin Mantak, Member board at Kurdistan Bar Association, highlighted that the Past legal challenges in the prosecution of international crimes highlighted the urgent need to equip ourselves with developments in international criminal law in order to effectively investigate and prosecute these crimes.This efforts lays the groundworking for ensuring access to justice for victims and upholding the rule of law during court proceedings involving international crimes. Accordingly, The KCIL efforts have been portal knowledge in equipping the Kurdistan lawyers to come familiar with the phases of investigation and prosecution of international crimes.
As the second day commenced, an analytical summary of the mechanisms of prosecution of  international crimes investigated within the Iraqi legal system was presented by Dr. Mohammed Elewa. In the afternoon of the same day, the participating lawyers were introduced to the procedures for investigating crimes against humanity in international criminal law and specialized and international courts by Dr. Gurgen Petrosian. The concluding topic of the workshop was presented by Dr. Sanar on Prosecute War Crimes within International Humanitarian Law.
